Since summer time is right around the corner we figured we’d share this Super Hydration Recipe we came across. Although we hate to admit it, many of us aren’t drinking enough water to remain hydrated. Then when you toss in dehydrating beverages like soda and coffee things can get ugly. So we’re going to keep our bodies hydrated with this cucumber rich detox recipe.

Cucumbers are a diuretic, which helps reduce water retention, and contain an enzyme called erepsin which helps digest proteins and supports healthy kidneys. They’re also low in calories, high in energy and extremely hydrating. So let’s get to it, shall we?

7 Tips for Tighter Abs with Fitness Magazine

The fitness experts over at Fitness Magazine sat down with fitness editor and exercise physiologist, Nicole Dorsey-Straff, to discuss ways to keep her abs tight and flat and the cellulite off after having children. Sounds perfect for us over at Sensual Elegance Body, right? Let’s get to it!

  1. Choose Variety Over Reps Instead of doing 100 crunches everyday, try switching things up by alternating your workouts. You can start off with 15-20 crunches and then move on to squats. Or leg lifts.
  2. Forget the “Upper vs Lower Abs” Idea Don’t focus so much on one area! Just because you’re feeling the burn in one section doesn’t mean the other one isn’t being engaged. Where you feel it depends on the move’s anchor point. For overall toning, try a mix of ab-sculpting moves that vary positions.
  3. Engage Your Pelvic Floor In order to target your abs more effectively you need to strengthen your pelvic-floor muscles. Actively engage them by gently pulling your belly button toward your back. Place one hand on your abdomen–if you feel your stomach pushing out while you do sit-ups, you’re pushing the pelvis down rather than pulling the muscles up and in, cheating yourself of a full workout. Keep your muscles contracted when working on your abs. Strong pelvic-floor muscles also help tone your abs post pregnancy.
  4. Work Your Abs, Not Your Neck Don’t put too much pressure on your neck during ab exercises! Use your core to pull you up–not your neck. Quick tip: to stop your neck muscles from tensing, place your tongue firmly on the roof of your mouth as you crunch.
  5. Fight Flab with Cardio Can’t tighten your abs without removing that excess fat first! Don’t forget to toss in some cardio workouts too to burn body fat as you tighten and tone.
  6. Make Abs Your Transition Workout Start off with about 45 minutes of engaging cardio then squeeze in some ab exercises before moving on to your next target area.
  7. Know When to Rest If your abs are sore the next day, that’s your body’s way of telling you to slow down. Try working on our abs every 2 days instead of daily. If you overwork them, you won’t see too much progress. Moderation is key!

Foods to Avoid for a Flat Stomach

Overall health and fitness is the ultimate goal but I can’t help but want a flat stomach along with it. And I know I’m not alone! There’s plenty of things you can do to achieve that lean 6-pack you’ve been dreaming of–but eating right seems to be one of the most important. Here’s a list of a few foods to avoid for a flat stomach:

Soda It’s best to avoid carbonated beverages for a number of reasons. Soda fills the stomach with air so it causes bloating and discomfort. It also contains a ton of sugar that won’t do your waist line (or your teeth) any favors in the long run. Opt for healthier beverages like green tea or water.

Refined Carbs Keep away from white rice and white flours as they digest very quickly causing spikes in insulin and blood sugar levels which can promote increased fat storage in the abdominal region.

Sodium Be sure to keep your sodium intake low as eating foods high in sodium can lead to fluid retention. Which, in turn, cause the stomach to bloat and look puffier.

Fast Food This one is obvious but deserves a spot on the list! Fast food meals can contain more than a single day’s worth of calories in one serving. Everything is high in fat and usually low in nutrition.

Alcohol Now I’m not telling you to quit drinking cold turkey! A glass of wine is good every now and then. But overindulging in alcohol can add a few inches to your waist. Like fast food, alcohol is high in calories with little nutritional benefit.

Potatoes Many people aren’t aware but potatoes are loaded with empty calories. According to nutritionist Walter Willet, eating a baked potato has nearly the identical effect on the body as eating a tablespoon of pure sugar.

Water for Weight Loss

Losing weight and toning your body isn’t easy. But you know what is? Drinking water. There’s a reason why it’s recommended that we drink up to 8-12 glasses a day. Our bodies are made of about 60% water so it’s extremely important to make sure we stay hydrated. Drinking lots of water benefits your skin, hair and even your weight. Yes, you can slim down by drinking water!

I don’t know about you but I pigged out on the holiday–lots of macaroni, greens, dressing and chicken. I was in heaven! But, as you know, all good things must come to an end.
